This 7-inch Vogue baby doll with the signature curved baby legs has an evenly toned body with all original parts matching in color. Her face is a bit paler due to light exposure over the past 75 years. She is not supposed to be able to stand and was instead designed to sit charmingly for you to enjoy. This Crib Crowd baby has her original curly, dark brunette caracul wig in excellent, clean condition with one or two teeny places where the wool has thinned. These are barely noticeable, but I do not want any disappointment. The back wig seam can be felt and there are no bald areas. Please see all photos. She has the early, Transitional very dark blue eyes that appear almost black and work entirely on their own with distinct charcoal eyelashes and brows. Her cheeks are evenly and strongly blushed. She is a striking, unusually beautiful doll with absolutely no touch-ups having been done to her. She is marked on her back "Vogue Doll" and on her neck "Vogue".
She will come to you in a white dotted Swiss smock-fronted gown with matching bonnet. The gown closes in back with a single brass safety pin and has an attached cotton lawn under slip. The matching white cotton lawn bloomers have good elastic. This early, untagged outfit is in remarkable, condition with no odors or stains. The pleated net inside the bonnet shows wear and two tiny holes near where the pink satin ribbon ties are attached. This may very well be for the earlier Sunshine Baby. It fits Crib Crowd perfectly and may well be a Christening gown. She wears vintage 1950s ecru oilcloth slippers with original pink satin ties to match the bonnet ribbons and comes with a tiny rare 1940s celluloid swan that was often used in early Vogue store displays, advertisements and brochures.
She is a rare doll in a wonderful outfit. I could not find this exact gown in any of my reference books, but you may verify and view many Crib Crowd dolls on page 71-81 of the Izen and Stover book, second edition, purple cover, The Collectors Encyclopedia of Vogue Dolls, and also on pages 13, 20 and 38 of Barbara Clarks book, TheColorful World of Ginny.
